USHS has Three of the Ten Texas Most Inspiring Teachers

Three teachers from United South High School were among those nominated by their students for the Gen TX Top 10 Most Inspiring Teachers of 2013 award. Gen TX is a statewide, grassroots movement focused on creating a culture of college and career education that will lead to the most successful generation ever! UISD students participated in the 2013 Take the Challenge Social Video contest. One of the video contest requirements was for students to write about a teacher that most inspired them to continue their education.

The winning teachers were recognized during a formal ceremony held at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Meeting in Austin, Texas on Thursday, January 23, 2014. Names of the winning teachers and nominating students who wrote essays about them are as follows:

Rene Carrillo, French Teacher
Nominated By: Georgette Perez of United South High School

Griselda Dozal, College Prep & GOLD
Nominated by:  Alyzza Lara and Alexis Cantu of United South High School

Jessica Escamilla, Math Teacher
Nominated By: Laura Martinez of United South High School

The results of this project are even more impressive when one considers that the winning essays were chosen from amongst thousands of entries from students attending high schools throughout the State of Texas. One can’t help but be proud that three out of the top ten essays were written by students who attend United South High School!

David Canales, UISD Executive Director of  High School Instruction, stated that “it is the greatest honor when your own students recognize your commitment and talent.”
